Friday: Kim Ng

Kim Ng (pronounced ANG) is a 39 year old Chinese-American women who is making headlines in the world of baseball.  Ng is one of only two women in baseball who are currently holding an Assistant General Manager position.  Ng calls the Los Angles Dodgers home.

Ng began her career in baseball over 17 years ago.  After she graduated from the University of Chicago with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy, she went to work for the Chicago White Sox as a special project analyst.  While in Chicago she became the youngest person and first person to present a salary arbitration case to the major leagues.  In 1997, she was hired by the New York Yankees as Assistant General Manager at the age of 29 which made her the youngest person to ever hold that position.  In 2001, she moved to the same position at the Los Angles Dodgers which is where she still resides.

Ng certainly does not intend to stay an assistant general manager.  In 2005, she interviewed for the Los Angles Dodgers’ vacant general manager position; however, the position later went to a man.  She has also been seriously considered for the general manager positions for the Seattle Mariners and the San Diego Padres.  Although she has yet to receive any concrete offers, Kim Ng’s record and reputation within the league will help her to reach her goal to become the first female general manager in any major sport.
