Tuesday: Joe Mauer

Joe Mauer is the catcher for the Major League Baseball team the Minnesota Twins.  For Minnesota, Mauer is their golden boy and with his pretty blue eyes and charming smile, it is easy to see why he has earned that title.  In 2001, Mauer turned down a football scholarship to Florida State University in order to enter the MLB draft.  He was selected first by the Twins.  Mauer spent only three years in the Minors before being promoted to the Twins in 2004.

Two years later, Mauer had his breakout year.  He became the first catcher in the history of the game to lead the league in batting average and the first American League catcher to win the batting title.  His 2006 season garnered him national media attention and earned him the Silver Slugger award.  In 2008, Mauer once again he won the batting title and that year also received the Golden Glove Award and then again in 2009.  Also in 2009, Mauer was named the Major League MVP.  In the current 2010 season, Mauer is continuing to be an integral part of the Twins.

Joe Mauer not only does great things on the Minnesota baseball field, but also within the community.  He has always made sure to give back to his home state of Minnesota and is known as one of the nicest players in the entire league.
